APUADA, Ed. D.

Directress

FAQ’s for all Anneans:

What is the plan of Ste. Anne de Beaupré School, Inc. for the following school year?

The school will transition into an online distance learning (ODL) hub. This is teaching via internet and any gadget that can support a learning management system. Learning management systems (LMS) make virtual classes easy to handle and videoconferencing (VC) tools will be used as well. If we have LMS and VC tools, then ODL will work.

Once we will be allowed to go back to school, the school will do this gradually and will practice strict social distancing. That’s the time we move to flexible or blended education, which is a combination of face to face and virtual classses. All of these are dependent on government’s announcements on whether it will be safe to go back to school or not.

Instead of being sick and exposing ourselves when we go out, let’s meet in the meantime via virtual classes. If students will stop now, it’s going to be one year delay in their schooling. Since most of us are just home, let’s make the most of staying at home by studying at home. Instead of wasting time on games and/or social media, let’s do ODL instead.

2. How will my kids study if we have no internet and no gadget?

This is our digital divide right now in our lives and we understand. We really do encourage you to subscribe to a reliable internet provider and provide the smart gadget/s for your child/ren because this has become truly a need not just because there’s a pandemic, but in all aspects of our lives nowadays. The internet is a very powerful tool to keep us updated and informed. Data loads are more affordable and may also be utilized if its really not possible to subscribe. Anyway, almost all have smartphones already so we will utilize the ready availability of this in every household.

If for some reason and you cannot provide internet connectivity and any smart gadget, then your child/ren will just be given weekly learning modules to be picked up at the guard every Monday. Text messaging with the adviser will be the only means to communicate. However, the child will be at a disadvantage because he or she cannot participate in the online classes. Aside from this, he will still have to do his or her research. How does the student do this? Since there is no library, the child has to connect to the internet. Ultimately, the internet is still a valuable commodity. Aside from this, every time that the modules are gotten from the school by a member of your household, the danger of contracting the coronavirus along the way still looms. Please get your subscription. It will be safer and easier in the long run.

3. How will SPED and preschool students be taught via ODL?

This will truly be a challenge to us all,, teachers and parents alike. But as we’ve said, we will need your full cooperation. All parents will be co-teachers of their young child/ren, Parents will need to be nearby the child to guide them in case some technical difficulties arise. Also, parents must teach their children to focus on the discussion or else the child will not learn the lesson for the day. If there is nobody to be with the child, then the child must be disciplined enough to learn independently. In most cases, the first few sessions will be the problem, but as the online classses go on, children can be left on their own eventually.

4. We are both frontliners/working parents and nobody else in our household knows how to use the gadgets and the internet.

All parents and guardians will be oriented and trained in ODL as well. This is needed so that the schooling of the child will not stop. If there will be a problem with the schedule then the parents may request that the teaching sessions be recorded. Once the parents come home, then they can play the recording for their children. However, the interaction is lost since it is not live discussion anymore. Or if there is some relative or neighbor or any available friend who you can ask a favor from you may do so for your child to be on schedule with his/her classes.

Trainings for parents will be announced and this will be done before the start of classes. At least basic troubleshooting must be learned. Do not worry since it is so easy and the teachers are always around to help. Online parents’ orientations and trainings may be done by level or by department, depending on the numbers.

5. How can the school assist us parents in this time of pandemic?

First of all, the school has given discounts already and it is quite big already. The school is taking its chances in giving the discounts just as long as the parents are helped during this COVID-19 period. The school isn’t even sure if enrolees will still be the same but still these discounts are given. Even if you look around, you will see that our rates are reasonable and affordable. With our quality education and meaty curriculum you know that our lessons are topnotch. There is no tuition fee increase for this school year. It was even lessened because we offered big discounts.

Last March, we were the only school who was able to administer the 4th quarter tests online. Even if there are a lot of tuition fee collectibles, all students were given this test just to finish their grades, even though there are still plenty who have accounts. Other students even have several years in their accounts but they were also allowed to take the test. The school is hoping that parents will be able to produce payments for the school to continue its operation.

Uniforms will not be required for ODL to lessen the expenses for parents, but it will be required once face to face classes are allowed again. The school supplies will be still given but if there is no delivery then we will not give it for now. Books will still be needed as these are the main educational material for the students and the contents of these must be learned. Some grade levels are being offered at 33k only to honor the school’s 33 years of existence.

Discounts of 1500 are extended for the whole month of May, instead of this being offered until March only. For June we will still have 1k discount. For July regular school fees apply. So it is best to enroll already to avail of the discounts. For new students, the entrance exam fee is waived for now.

In an ODL setup, it will be more economical for parents as there will be no more baon, transpo or school bus, uniforms, costumes, costs of activities, class parties, field trips, projects, and other incidental school expenses which you might have incurred during the course of the regular school year. Just as long as the student faces the online class clean and neatly dressed, then uniforms are not required for now. You might be surprised to see that you are actually saving in ODL.

However, activities may still be done. They are now being planned as we speak. Performances online can be done and readily available house materials may be used. Examples are the 1st Tuesday mass, daily rosary, elocution, and showing some TikTok-worthy talents of the students.

6. Why can’t we have more discounts since the operating expenses of the school will be lessened?

On the contrary, the school might be facing a bigger set of expenses now that it ventures into ODL. There are tech expenses that replaced our usual utilities expenses, such as infrastructure of the automated school system, subscription fees, firewall, putting the automated school system online, trainings for personnel, IT professionals and consultation fees, output of plans, seminars and conferences, software licenses, non-stop tech research and developments, planning expenses, implementation expenses, updates and patches for the automated system, programers’ fees, and many more.

Aside from this, the vacation period lasted for months, which means that we have to give the full salaries of the teachers even though there are no classes. For most of these months, the salaries of the employees consist of the bulk of our expenses. There are still maintenance and construction costs and personnel we need to pay to look after the school.

The school does not know what will happen in the near future so the finances are really put to pay the school’s dues and other contractual obligations. Even before the school releases its published tuition rates, there are specific strategic plans that are in place already to improve our services and these will not be waived anymore as it is already in motion.

7. When is the opening of classes?

As of last week, we were looking at August 24, 2020, same as the opening of public schools. However, upon further introspection, the school has now tentatively scheduled its opening to July 20, 2020. These will mostly consist of orientations, trainings, and testing for the teachers to know if all are ready for ODL. Besides, this is a great time to pray to Ste. Anne on July 26, 2020, her feast day. Who knows? She might give us one of her patented pleasant surprise! This opening date is allowed by law, as it is stated that schools may open between the months of June to August.

8. Will our child/ren really learn in an ODL setup?

Just as long as the child is disciplined enough and the parents are willing to cooperate then it will surely work, as it has been proven in different countries already. We understand your fear since we know that we are not used to this setup. But don’t worry, everything will be fine. Other big schools have already used this framework to deliver education with amazing results. Studies have shown that this can be done with all ages and grade levels. Since we are already in the new normal, ODL might be the face of education for quite some time. Nobody can really tell how long we will be told to stay at home. Instead of wasting a school year, it is really best for them to study via ODL. Just allot one corner of your house to be your child/ren’s classroom away from school.

9. But isn’t it best to have face to face learning?

Yes that is ideal, but since this is our situation right now, we wouldn’t want to bring the kids to school and risk it, do we? ODL is a framework that is not too far away from face to face learning framework. A little adjustment is all that we are asking for this to work. Just think about it that the classroom of your child/ren are transferred to your houses, where they will be safe and comfortable, without worries of travel and exposure.

10. What about interaction with their classmates?

Online interactions are very much present in ODL. They can still bond with their classmates and learn together as if they are still in a class. There are collaborative activities and group works that they need to do. Recitations are still part of the grades and they will still learn from each other. If we think about it, these kids really do bond anyway via group chats and social media.

11. How do we enrol right now that we can’t go out?

For old students, online payments or bank deposits are accepted. Just send a screenshot or picture of the confirmation or deposit slip. If there are data that needs to be updated then you can inform the office so that the system can be updated. Those with overdue accounts need to settle their obligations first before they are accepted for the coming school year.

For new students, the entrance exam fee is waived as a way to show our help. The entrance exam will be put in an LMS that the student must access with an access code to be given by the office. If he or she passes, then they answer an online application form. Payment is via online payments or bank deposits also. Don’t forget to send the screenshot or picture of the payment confirmation or deposit slip for verification to the office. For safety and security, the bank accounts of the school was removed from this website to stay safe from hackers. The messenger accounts of Sir John and Miss Len is John Lapulapu and Nen Mar respectively.

12. I don’t want to put my child in an ODL setup. I still want physical classroom setup.

You will really be disappointed because schools are not allowed to conduct face to face classes, unless you transfer to a place without coronvirus. Nobody is allowed to go out and gather in a school for now. Most schools are really for online learning because it is both safe and effective.

13. What if I want my child to be tutored?

It is still possible but it is still via online. However, advisers are not allowed to teach their own students. All payments must pass through the office for control. This setup might be abused by the teachers and they might get more than they can handle. The school will be the one to give your child his or her tutor, but you may request for any teacher of your choice just as long as he or she is not their adviser.

14. Isn’t it too fast for this implementation and are the teachers ready to teach their lessons online?

We assure you that the teachers are ready, you will be ready and the students will be ready. Just a little patience and positive attitude is needed. It’s about two months before we officially open the school year, so there’s a lot of time for preparations. It’s all up to us to make this work. You will be surprised how easy but effective this is going to be. It’s like making learning easier or doing learning the progressive way.

15. What LMS or educational platform do we need to learn?

Right now we are training for Google classroom. Although there are other possible options like Edmodo, Seesaw, Edpuzzle, Playposit, Flipgrid, etc. For videoconferencing apps we can explore Messenger, Meet, Zoom, Lark and Skype. We will let you know what we have finalized regarding this.

  16. How do we protect our students from scammers, hackers, cyberbullying, cyberlibel, data privacy, etc?

This is where parental intervention comes in so that they will not experience these kinds of online threats. Your cooperation on this one is truly needed to safeguard them. Don’t worry, they will also be oriented on how to tackle these.

17. How will online assessments and honors be done?

Virtual cheating, open internet, open books, available adult help, plagiarism, etc are just some reasons why we are still crafting the grading system as of this time. This will be discussed in the parents’ orientation. This will also be included in the school’s e-handbook.

18. There are other questions I need to ask.

Always stay tuned to this post of sabs.edu.ph for updates or you may call 75089327.

#educationneverstops

#evolutionofeducationbegins

#evolutionofeducationneverstops

DATE: May 12, 2020 TO: Annean community FROM: Office of the Principal RE: PLANS FOR SY 2020-2021 AMIDST COVID-19 PANDEMIC All Anneans…heed the call for oneness and wellness!
